Fuzz Dream is the solo project of Chad Kistler, the drummer of another band, Dental Vision. I formed Fuzz Dream as a way of communicating my own art style while I was away from my band in college. Fuzz Dream is focused on experimenting with noises and melodies using a DIY aesthetic. It is particularly influenced by ambient music, experimental rock, and dub reggae, with hints of African styles and experimental punk. The band name refers to the fuzz from the low quality microphone ($5) I use to record my music. The fuzz itself is integral to the musical experience, and I use it as another layer of sound in my music. Fuzz Dream exists not only to experiment with and experience music, but to make a statement about the democratic nature of art. While much of classical art focuses on virtuosity, I am drawn more to the more recent developments of art that encourage an "anyone can do it, but in their own way" feeling for creative work. Of course, there is still a place for virtuosity, but we should be encouraging people of all ages and backgrounds to express themselves in any form they choose, without feeling like they can never match "high art." Everyone has something meaningful to say and do if they choose to say or do it. And that's where Fuzz Dream was born, and why I am attracted to Rack and Ruin. I use a free recording program, Audacity, to record my music using the aforementioned low quality microphone, and I play on instruments that don't belong to me. I want to create things using tools that are widely available, relying on creativity to elevate them into something that is mine.
