Rack & Ruin records

31st July 2008

With Rack & Ruin celebrating it's 4th birthday tomorrow (well in months at least), we are delighted to bring you some gorgeous summery psychedelic folk (with a pop twist), Michigans, Ringo Star have arrived, and with them comes their excellent debut Rack & Ruin offering, "Soul Tide". CDRs, and possibly posters may soon follow, and if they do, then we will surely let you know how you can get hold of your very own copy. Which will not only be a pat on the back for our work, but also it will help Ringo Star through college! Win/Win. In the meantime, download a digital copy right here:

An early morning HDD glitch resulted in one of the tracks on the gorgeous Changeling being corrupted. Panic stations, mad mailing, and good fortune, has managed to get this release back intact, and available for your listening pleasure. This is glorious, chilled out, indie music, that is sure to appeal to many an ear out there! Grab it now - and make a couple of backups to give to friends.

Gnomefoam is back on Rack & Ruin, with more cut & paste experimental electronic trickery. Who is the girl in the purple painting? Will we ever know? This curious offering from Yorkshires finest is for those of you who like to be left with questions, and to make your own conclusions at the end, rather than being gifted the answers. This album also contains the wonderful track, "To be given the glum job", which Robby Massey (dessktop) turned into a video - you can see this on the Gnomefoam page, but to get the real benefit - click onto Youtube, and watch it in HD. Go do that now, whilst you wait for the album to download...

Tonight America Del Sur are supporting Tilly and the Wall, in Jacksonville, FL. If you can't be there, then we can offer the next best thing. Their debut album! For our 64th release may I suggest that you invite some friends around, play this loud, drink a few beverages, and maybe get someone to tap dance later in the evening.

Billy Say's "other" band, The Sea Monsters, featured on the previous Rack & Ruin release, "Hateful and Hollow", I will not need to explain the contrast in styles between the two artists, as anybody with working ears will be able to notice that the two are very very different. Billy Say returns with "Fire/Walk with me", 25 minutes of drones to cast a spell on you.

Rack & Ruin was almost called "Hateful and Hollow", until somebody suggested that it sounded like we'd only be featuring hardcore and emo outfits. Therefore, I scrapped the idea, knowing one day that I would somehow get to use that name! Here R&R brings a collection of artists together, who have created the perfect sounds to allow you to ponder, contemplate, or even wallow in self pity, whilst being thoroughly entertained throughout! The brief was to create a song which they felt encapsulated the moods of sadness, depression, anger, frustration, pity. Download it, close the curtains, and cancel all appointments.

It's funny what happens when you get visited by someone on Last.FM, the curious side takes over, and you return the visit. How fortunate that I did, as this is exactly how I came across Chimney Fish. This Denton, Texas native will bowl you over with this release, gorgeous ethereal, almost spiritual vocals looping, and washing over you from afar. I can't recommend this release enough, as I'm sure the next time I get visited on Last.FM, this name will be on the weekly chart!

New site, new music - what a good day! RRR060 sees the return of Californias, Christian Oldham aka Megazord. With him, comes "Prismatic Refraction / Healing Eternity", more hypnotic drones from the noise merchant.

If Tyson Brinacombe was born in Athens, Georgia, instead of Harrow, Ontario, and he was born in the early 70s, instead of the mid 80s, then I think his name would be much more well known than it is now. If catchy bubblegum E6 friendly indiepop are keywords that you search for, then what are you waiting for. RRR059, "I'm in a band EP" is out now!

5th July 2008

Our fourth month is upon us, and with it comes the debut offering from San Diegos "Narwhal Mountain", this 5 track offering (RRR058) entitled "If Only", is electronic music that will make you want to dance, mixed with sombre lyrics that will make you want to contemplate. Awesome sounds.
